"Voyagers" - 24x30 oil and cold wax on canvas. The title of this painting is inspired by a poem by Wendell Berry, titled "The River Voyagers". There's a line that describes the early morning voyagers as their bodies awaken on the water and, "Their vision slowly loves the sky," that resonates deeply with me. I've experienced those moments of visual awe as the light of morning or dusk rolls in and saturates the colors of the sky. So for the painting itself, I mixed saturated colors and mixed them with cold wax to give the overall texture a velvety appearance. It's a bit hard to see in photos but it's a texture that makes you want to touch it, like a smooth ocean stone.  *Images above show painting in different lighting. Without direct light, the blue water of the painting appears almost black but with sunlight the paler blues are reflected.
