"The Cove" 18x24x1.5 oil on canvas. The seascapes along La Jolla's coastline are a painter's dream with all the different rock formations, inlets and caves. I am particularly drawn to La Jolla Cove because I have so many memories here. As a teenager, my friends an I would jump off of "The Clam", which is fortunately now forbidden, but was almost a rite of passage growning up. Later on, I would participate in the Rough Water swim from La Jolla Cove to The Shores and back, and then life would come full circle and I taught my daughters to snorkle here amongst all the bright orange Garibaldis. The underpainting of this particlar piece shares the same rich and vibrant color of these protected fish. Painting places such a this allows me to take a little trip down memory lane as each session of work evokes more memories.
