"Summer of 1911" 24x36 oil and cold wax on canvas. I recently came upon some vintage images of bathers from the early 20th century. In order to preserve their modesty beach-goers would change in these small portable rooms called "bathing machines" which would spare anyone the scandal of making their way down the beach in their bathing attire. They could then hop right out of the machine and into the water. The machines were all towed into the shoreline by horses. Since the images are all in black and white it gave me freedom to choose my own palette and imagine that all the boxy machines were painted in a variety of colors.
"Summer of 1911" is part of a diptych but can be sold separately.
