"Sumbisori" 48x36 oil on canvas.  The first in a series of paintings inspired by the legendary Haenyeo of Jeju Island (Korea). Haeynyeo are a group of women free divers who dive the ocean's depth to harvest food and provide for their families, relying on their breath (sumbisori) and an ancestral knowledge of the sea passed down over generations. Their unique breathing methods echo across the waves like a birdcall, signaling both survival and solidarity amongst the divers.
