Oil on gallery wrapped canvas 30x40: Dorothy Poynton-Hill was a champion diver. At age thirteen Poynton became the youngest Olympian to win a medal after she won the silver medal in springboard diving in the 1928 Olympic games. Dorothy went on to win gold to at both the 1932 and 1936 Olympics and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1968. This is the second piece painted from an old black and white image of Dorothy (no photo credit available unfortunately). I created a textured background placing strong vertical and horizontal lines through the piece to evoke a sensation of the pool tiles. I painted her suit a rich golden yellow as a nod to her medals won. Dorothy's Golden Dive is part of a series "Leap of Faith" I have been working on. Please see my Jounal for further information on this series.
