"Connections" 24x30 oil and cold wax on campus - I continue to explore our relationship with water in my paintings and even serendipitously what I read. Currently, I'm reading The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Such beautiful writing that I find myself highlighting lines right and left. This is one of my favorites so far, "He'll never know the bracing sensation of diving headfirst into the river, the roar of entry followed by enveloping silence. All water is connected, and her world is limitless. He stands at the limits of his." I wonder about these boys in my painting...about where they will go on this boat -- itself symbolic of exploration, of challenging limits, a vessel connecting one shore to another, one life to another.
