“Midsummer” 48x60 oil on canvas. This painting was inspired while visiting Florida with my daughter for one of her surgeries. The heat was heavy so I spent the middays sketching and painting while she slept. I found a wonderful poem by Derek Walcott titled, “Midsummer, Tobago”. Often I read a poem and then find inspiration from there to paint, but this one I stumbled across after I had painted this piece and it fit so perfectly for the scene and the moment I was in. I love the last line: “days I have held, days I have lost, days that outgrow, like daughters, my harboring arms.” This piece is available through my gallery Salt Fine Art.
