I hold a special place in my heart for girls and women who surf. I spent my life growing up next to some of the greatest surfing spots in the country but never hopped on a surfboard until I was in my 30's. Despite watching Gidget it never dawned on me that it was a sport we could do. Times have changed but I still see a girl with a surfboard tucked under her arm as a maverick.
